La La Land sets record for most Golden Globes Awards won by a film

La La Land, the musical comedy drama starring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling, has set a new record for Most Golden Globe awards won by a film.

The film, which was recently released in US cinemas had been nominated in seven categories at the 74th annual Golden Globe Awards which took place on Sunday. 

Incredibly, La La Land won the globe for every single nomination, beating the previous record haul at the awards of five.

The film's two lead actors were among those in attendance for the awards which honour the the best in film and American television.

The popular new production tells the story of Mia and Sebastian, both aspiring artists who struggle to pursue their dreams in the city of Los Angeles, California. In an intense two-hour plot, the pair must decide between a rare love or a chance at fame. 

The movie had been strongly tipped to do well at the awards, having been well received by reviewers and movie-goers following its release on December 9th in the US.

The record for Most Golden Globes Awards won by a film had previously been jointly held by Doctor Zhivago (1966), Love Story (1971), The Godfather (1973), One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1976) and A Star is Born (1977).
