Each week here on guinnessworldrecords.com, we’ll be dipping into our extensive video library to bring you a classic piece of record-breaking action.
This week's clip is footage taken at the Guinness World Records photoshoot of the world’s Largest telephone, which appeared in the 2013 edition of the Guinness World Records book.
The supersized telephone was exhibited at a festival on 16 September 1988 to celebrate the 80th birthday of Centraal Beheer, an insurance company in Apeldoorn, Netherlands.
It was a staggering 2.47 metres (8 foot 1 inch) high and 6.06 metres (19 foot 11 inches) long.
Weighing 3.5 tonnes, the giant phone was even heavier than the average female Asian elephant (2.7 tonnes).
The handset, being 7.14 m (23 ft 5 in) long, had to be lifted by crane for a call to be made. This was required in order to prove that the phone was fully operational.

At the other end of the scale, the Smallest operational telephone was created by Jan Piotr Krutewicz (USA) on 16 September 1996. It measured a minuscule 47.5 x 10 x 21 mm (1.8 x 0.3 x 0.8 in).
