Robot created by software developers solves Rubik’s cube in record time

While for most of us, solving a Rubik’s cube is a nearly impossible feat, a record-breaking robot created by Paul Rose and Jay Flatland, from Kansas City, USA, can solve the retro puzzle toy in the blink of an eye. 

 

The two software developers creation helped them set a new world record for the Fastest robot to solve a Rubik's Cube earlier this month with an incredible time of 0.9 seconds. 

 

Paul and Jay started building the robot in August 2015 as a hobby during their spare time. 

 

They were inspired to break a Guinness World Records title after buying a 3D printer and looking for ways to use it.

 

After looking at the current record at that time, they decided that they had the skills to attempt to break this record and using a 3D printer might give them an edge that hadn’t yet been tried. 

According to Paul and Jay, the most challenging part of creating the robot was coming up with a design that was both fast and simple enough to work reliably.

 

The robot was specifically built to solve a Rubik’s cube and now now that is has achieved that aim, its creators plan to reuse its parts for other robotics and computer vision projects. 

  

 

The attempt has proved a huge hit with YouTube viewers, with a clip announcing the confirmation of their robot's record impressively notching up over 6 million views.
