Saudi Arabia’s Al Jazirah Vehicles Agencies and Al Jazirah Ford Racing drifted into the record books in a cloud of pink smoke during part of a campaign to raise awareness about breast cancer.

Led by professional race drivers Abdulhadi Al-Qahtani and Muath Al-Essa, the Al Jazirah Ford Racing Team achieved a new Guinness World Records title for the Largest tyre mark image on the vast asphalt outside a car storage centre in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The striking image depicted the breast cancer awareness ribbon and measured a spectacular 883.98 m² (9,515 ft²).

President of Al Jazirah Vehicles Agencies Sheikh Abdullah bin Fahad Al-Kraidees explained the reasons behind the record-breaking event:

“The first message the event wanted to promote was to raise awareness of the breast cancer disease. We need to do more as a society to promote breast cancer awareness throughout the year with creative ideas that connect with key audiences in our society. We have to talk more about topics which impact people’s health, and push the importance within our communities about the need for early screening which improves the chances of recovery from breast cancer.”

“Drifting is one of the most popular sports in Saudi Arabia, and as AJVA we are committed to providing a safe and secure environment for people to enjoy and appreciate different types of driving. I’d like to congratulate Al Jazirah Ford Racing Team for their remarkable achievement,” he added.

The drivers accomplished the challenge in Ford Mustang RTR-Ds that had been fitted with special tyres designed for burnouts.

It took 45 minutes to complete the image but finally Guinness World Records adjudicator Alan Pixsley was able to confirm a new record for the car companies and present an official certificate.

He said: The drivers needed to complete the logo design by drifting in an area of 500 square meters. However, thanks to the skill and courage of Al Jazirah Ford Racing Team, the drivers surpassed the number needed to drift the logo in an area of 883.98 square meters.”
