The Speyside Cooperage Visitor Centre in Moray, Scotland decided to add a record-breaking element to their annual whisky festival in a bid to excite and entertain their guests.
 
Four skilled coopers went head-to-head to attempt the Guinness World Records title Fastest time to build a 190 litre barrel, under the watchful gaze of official adjudicator Jack Brockbank and around 300 visitors.

All the equipment was cut to size and laid out ahead of the attempt and then, after a tense countdown, the barrel craftsmen set to work.

They had a time of 7 minutes 30 seconds to beat and had to ensure their casks were watertight to industry standard.
 
David McKenzie finished making his barrel in a blinding 3 minutes 3.18 seconds and successfully secured the record.
