As part of its ongoing “Help Them Remember” art-therapy initiative, Sanitas Mayores chose its care home in Mojados – in the province of Valladolid, Spain – as the venue for a creative Guinness World Records attempt.

With the sun shining and a barbecue on the go, 5,000 elderly residents of Sanitas Mayores retirement homes across the country assembled on the lawn outside to create the Largest cardboard mosaic image.

Depicting a bright, multi-coloured tree, the image measured a huge 1,119.9 m² (12,054.5 sq ft).

It comprised 12,500 cardboard squares, each one of which had been hand-painted by residents.

Official Guinness World Records adjudicator Anna Orford was on hand to announce the new record, bringing a smile to the faces of the participants, guests and organisers.

“Help Them Remember” focuses mainly on helping people with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, and aims to activate their senses and promote socialising.
