More than 30 years after Schools Spectacular first achieved the world’s Largest amateur variety act in Sydney, Australia, the event has smashed its record with an incredible 5,322 participants.

Schools Spectacular is an annual event organised by the NSW Department of Education and sees school children from across New South Wales take part in a huge variety show.

When all the kids came together on stage for this year's incredible finale, Guinness World Records adjudicator Solvej Malouf was able to confirm a new record.

The show incorporated a large student orchestra, stage band, 41 featured artists and thousands of talented dancers.

A diverse range of choreographed routines such as pieces of musical theatre, ballet, hip hop, tap and Aboriginal dances were also included in the act.

The enormous number of participants was more than double the 2,100 children who appeared in the finale of the 1985 Schools Variety Spectacular, which was held at Sydney Entertainment Centre.
