The Very Big Catwalk extravaganza was organised as part of the citywide festival, Transatlantic 175 – marking the 175th anniversary of the first transatlantic crossing in 1840.

Intentionally coinciding with Independence Day, aspects from both British and US culture were celebrated through the music, fashion, art, film and food that has moved across the Atlantic since cruise travel between the two nations began 175 years ago.

Creative director of the two-day event, Wayne Hemingway, said, “Liverpool is pretty adept at taking its place on the world stage, so the fact that we’ve smashed this Guinness World Records title attempt comes as no surprise. What was really amazing was seeing the many different aspects of Liverpool’s community represented.”
