NBA’s Golden State Warriors star Kevin Durant led 3,459 kids in the world’s Largest basketball lesson (multiple venues) during an attempt at five venues across India.

The event was organised by NBA Properties Inc. (USA) and Reliance Foundation Jr (India), a basketball training programme for kids in India.

Durant taught the class from The NBA Academy India in New Delhi, while other boys, girls, parents and local celebrities followed the lesson via screens in Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad and Kolkata.

In order to achieve the Guinness World Records title, the lesson had to last for at least 30 minutes and only children fully participating were included in the final attendance total.

Guinness World Records adjudicator Rishi Nath officiated the attempt from the New Delhi sports hall and presented a certificate to the exhausted, but excited crowd of youngsters.

The attempt was organised was to celebrate The NBA Academy India elite training facility, which opened in May.

 “Sports has the ability to unite people, and this record-setting NBA clinic led by Finals MVP Kevin Durant helped us connect young basketball players throughout the country in a single event,” said NBA India Managing Director Yannick Colaco.

“We are growing the game of basketball in India, and having Kevin here, one of the world’s greatest players, will no doubt inspire countless young boys and girls to stay healthy and active and believe that they can do anything.”
