For the second time this week on NBC’s TODAY show, another record attempt was performed on set for their Supreme Summer Week segment.

Bringing the heat of the Mexican rodeo to viewers, Javier Escamilla attempted the record for Most lasso Texas skips in one minute.

A ‘Texas skip’ involves jumping through a swinging lasso multiple times while keeping the rope in motion. The task requires precision, accuracy, consistency, as well as the uncanny ability to be light on one’s feet.

Although Javier is something of a veteran of the rodeo, having toured through Mexico and Europe with his Trick Rope Show “Hermanos Escamilla”, the record of 80 skips in just 60 seconds was a tough target to beat.

Nevertheless, despite the pressure of a live audience, Javier managed to keep his cool and set a new record after registering an incredible 100 skips in the allotted time.

Javier was just 4-years-old when he began performing Mexican Charreada (Mexican Rodeo).

Currently based in Wisconsin, his fantastic rope skills have allowed him to participate in the Antonio Aguilar Equestrian Show, an NBA half-time show for the Timberwolves, as well as perform workshops for students eager to learn his talent.

Javier’s achievement follows an attempt at the title for most wet T-shirts put on in one minute during Tuesday’s edition of the show
