The KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH) in Singapore has broken the record for the Largest reunion of people born at the same hospital after 2,241 people aged from 7-85 years old got together at Bishan Stadium for a special community celebration.

The “Born in KKH” event saw people covering many different generations celebrate their place of birth alongside each other.

Official Guinness World Records adjudicator Rishi Nath was invited to the event to check birth certificates and count the participants in order to verify the record.

Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean was the special guest of honour at the event, having been born at the maternity hospital himself.

Following the record attempt, there were sports try-outs led by Team Singapore athletes, carnival games, an inflatable obstacle course and arts and crafts for the guests to get involved with.

The previous record was achieved by The Medical City and History in the Philippines after a total of 1,221 people born at the same hospital were brought together in 2015.

Associate Professor Tan Heng Hao, Chairman of the Born in KKH Steering Committee, and Deputy Chairman, Division of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, KKH shared their thoughts on the successful record attempt: “We are very heartened and humbled by the strong show of support from those born in KKH. This morning’s record-setting achievement would not have been possible if not for the contribution from each and every single one of the participants as well as our wonderful event partners.

“The encouraging response which we have received from the community for the ‘Born in KKH’ event is a true testament to their appreciation for the holistic medical care and compassion that we provide to our patients every day,” he continued.

Back in 1966, a fact finding agency that would eventually become Guinness World Records recognised the hospital for recording the highest number of births in one year - the original certificate is pictured below.
