Every Wednesday we’ll be shining a light on the coolest, wackiest, or most unique records from around the globe recently approved by our Records Management Team with our Spotlight series.

Casey Severn is a side show performer who was determined to break the record for the most mouse traps released on the tongue in one minute. See the snappy, and indeed painful results in the video below.

Casey's record attempt took place at the Maryland Renaissance Festival in the USA, an event set in a recreated fictional 16th-century English village where his painful acts of brave self-affliction were applauded by costumed reenactment enthusiasts.

Casey managed to withstand a grand total of 53 mouse trap snaps, beating the previous record set by Canada's Sweet Pepper Klopek of the Monsters of Schlock, who managed a total of 40 traps when he appeared on Lo Show Dei Record in Italy.

Not content to rest on his laurels, Casey's next challenge on the agenda is an attempt at most rat traps released on the tongue record. Ouch.
