This weekend saw thousands of videogame enthusiasts descend on the NEC in Birmingham for the huge UK gaming festival "Insomnia" - an event which saw three popular YouTubers set an an all-new Guinness World Records title for the Most goals scored in a game of Rocket League (team of three).

A surprise PS4 and PC hit published by Psyonix, Rocket League is a multiplayer game based loosely around soccer where players drive around the pitch and try to score goals in rocket powered cars.

On Saturday afternoon, a trio made up of DanTDM (Daniel Middleton), Waglinton (James Hayes), and InTheLittleWood (Martyn Littlewood) took their places on the main stage and smashed the the benchmark score of 13 during the five minute match, beating the computer controlled team by an astounding 41-0, despite the added pressure of a huge audience.

Although they had a slow start and it took them a while to get into the double figures, they soon found a rhythm and started racking up goal after goal, with “Dan TDM” netting the majority of the goals.

As expected with Rocket League games on rookie level, many goals came direct from kick-off, but there were also some great headed goals and many instances of some real skill from all three players.

The record total is especially impressive considering the equivalent record for a team of two is just 11 – achieved by Dan TDM and Tom Cassell aka “Syndicate” at Legends of Gaming on 5 September 2015.
Guinness World Records adjudicator Fortuna Melhem was on hand to verify the record and present the delighted boys with official certificates recognising their gaming accomplishment.
