Babe Ruth's earliest-known jersey was sold this week for $4,415,658 (£2,789,860), making it the most expensive baseball jersey sold at auction.

The bidding for the 1920s Yankees shirt started at $250,000, and reached its final price after a total of 36 bids.

One of the most famous baseball players of all time, Ruth, nicknamed the Bambino, won seven World Series titles during his career.

The jersey was worn by Babe Ruth after he was sold to the Yankees by the Boston Red Sox in 1919.

An anonymous buyer won the auction from SCP Auctions of Laguna Niguel, California, USA.
