Largest gathering of Olympic mascots
508 children set a new Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of Olympic mascots by dressing as the five “Friendlies”, mascots of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, at Xinhua Square in Huhehaote City, China, on 23 June 2008. The event was organized by Inner Mongolia Yili Industrial Group Co., Ltd and North News.
The event is to welcome the Beijing 2008 Olympics games and to express good wishes for a successful Olympics in Beijing this year. The participants were children from the schools in Huhehaote city. All of whom were very happy to take part in this event. At the event, participants put on full costumes of the five “Friendlies”, they then formed the Olympic Rings and also the number 2008. After the Rings were formed, the children also danced to a song called “I will take part in Olympic Games when I grow up”.
Guinness World record adjudicator Angela Wu then counted the number of participants and announced that a new Guinness World Record had been set. The news was received by thunderous applause. The children were also in for another surprise when the organizers told them that the costumes they wore to break the records were theirs to keep!
