A painting by numbers describing the scenery along the Yalu River in Dandong City, China, set a Guinness World Record on 18 June 2008. The painting is 202.06 m (662 ft 11 in) long and was achieved by Dandong Youth and Children Palace in Dandong City, China. The event itself was organized by Dandong Youth League committee, Dandong Education Bureau and Dandong Tourism Bureau.  This record surpassed the previous record of 161.73 m (530 ft 7 in) which was set in Luoyang City, China, on 10 April earlier this year.

Dandong City is located in north-east China, along the Yalu River, which is on the border between China and North Korea. The record attempt took place on a bridge over the Yalu River called the Broken Bridge in the afternoon of 18 June. The 424 artists who participated in creating the painting were from the schools and university in Dandong City.

After two hours, the artists completed the job. A beautiful long scroll was there, to be enjoyed by the audience. Guinness World Records adjudicator, Angela Wu measured this painting and verified that a new record had been established. The participants and the audience cheered as a certificate was presented to commemorate this great achievement. One of the organisers stated, “We are very proud that we could break a world record. I hope more and more people get to know our beautiful Dandong through this painting and I also hope that there will be more and more records set in this city.”
